Plate I — A Welcome

Four generations.
One small bakery.

Anton Holzapfel, a Hungarian immigrant, opened a bakery on South Tenth Street that traces back to 1912. In time the name became Olsen. Four generations later, the same family still bakes here before dawn.

Plate III — The Family

From Holzapfel
to Olsen.

Anton Holzapfel came over from Hungary and opened the bakery on South Tenth Street — the business traces back to 1912. The family remembers him for his kolaches and breads, and for feeding anyone who came up short at the counter.

In time the family name became Olsen. The same family runs the shop today — same address, same recipes, handed down four generations.

Plate V — A Few Words

What folks say
when they leave with a box.

“Best kolache in Omaha. I drive across town and they’re often sold out by the time I get there. Come early.”

— Sample review Omaha

“My grandfather brought my mother here. My mother brought me. I bring my kids. Four generations of mornings in that little shop.”

— Sample review Omaha

“The pumpkin cake donut shouldn’t be as good as it is. There’s no reason a donut should make you that emotional.”
